Poosac, a brand owned by Kim Smith, is making odd-looking dolls that we couldn’t help but love at first sight. Kim shares them on Instagram with nearly 60,000 followers and sells them on Etsy.
“I’ve always had a serious love of all things quirky, dog-eared and a little bit ‘wrong’ looking,” she says.
Kim has been making dolls, gifts, and stationary for nearly 20 years.

Day 14 – How I learnt Three words: practice, practice, practice! I’ve always adored drawing, sewing, making and creating things ever since I was little so the portfolio of work you see before you now is actually the product of decades of learning, experimenting and trial and error. I studied my art foundation course at Jacob Kramer in Leeds, then went on to do a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication (Illustration) at Edinburgh College of Art. I guess my love of drawing (both photo realistic and stylised/cartoon drawings), informs a lot of my current designs – everything from my hand-painted pet portrait dolls like the little pug pictured here, to my hand-cut paper illustrations and greeting cards. I love working in both forms – the most important thing to me is ensuring that my work is filled with personality. Apart from learning how to make an apron and a few other minor sewing projects at primary school, I’ve never been formally taught any sewing skills. Rather, it’s been a case of practising various techniques over the years (sometimes with the aid of YouTube tutorials). I think that if a true pro sewer were to watch my ‘processes' they’d shudder at the laborious nature of it all! We, and our work, are always a ‘work in progress’, so I think it’s only right that we should be constantly developing and learning new skills/methods/knowledge. There are SO many skills that I have yet to hone – particularly in regard to Illustrator & Photoshop as I’m keen to see how I could push my work and product line in different directions.
