Most people don’t see much use in packaging materials like pulp, Styrofoam, and plastic sheets, and often choose to throw them away. But Netherlands-based textile artist Suzanne Jongmans isn’t like most people. She decided to get creative with these materials and use them to create elaborate Renaissance costumes.
Jongmans goes one step further in her artistic endeavors, photographing the costumes in a way that the photos resemble the classical paintings of Dutch artists Rembrandt and Rogier van der Weyden.
“The idea of making something out of nothing changes our look on reality,” – says Jongmans about her work. “…Most people throw that [foam] away. I make clothing out of it; foam is my textile.”
